the look of Reno #2 - trashing the Truckee

I don't know about you but I like to go swimming when it is hot. It used to swim more frequently up at Tahoe but lately because of time constraints and the price of gas I've been spending more time in the Truckee River, especially taking a dip in the white water park and drifting down the rapids. It is great fun and a great way to cool off. I ride my bike down and jump in. Unfortunately though over a period of just two days I watched the river's rocky shores literally get strewn with garbage. It… Continue

the look of reno

just when i think reno is going in the right direction and getting a little better looking along comes another idea that i just don't agree with. the city has plans to put in a trolley type bus system with overhead lines to run along the virginia street corridor. while i'm all for trying to increase public transportation i just don't think this is the way to go. i for one hate to see any more lines in our sky (why don't they put all those other electric and telephone lines underground by now?).… Continue

On NadaDadaism

Power corrupts, community collapses.
Equality is cooperation. Opportunity is earned.

Let's embrace powerlessness, let's engage community. Let's earn opportunity, with equality. Let's build a powerless commune of opportunistic equals.

There's been an organic development of the event/possee/movement that we're calling NadaDada Motel. In 2007, the first year, it was named Dada Motel by El Jefe. He brought a group of six artists together to put the wheels in motion and that is what we did and that… Continue

Googling, Vibes, and Dead Cats

This is only a blog. No deep meaning, no political statement, no art. It just occurred to me that since Sorg has been exposing his thoughts and aspirations (amongst other things) to the world at large, maybe I should take this opportunity to provide way too much information to my friends as well. Plus, it’s Saturday night (Happy Valentine's Day) and I can barely see straight after working on a digital piece, pixel by pixel, for the last couple of hours.

I was invited to two separate “dos” last… Continue

Vegas exhibit quick run down for all you supa-freaks!

It's so cool how so many of our friends from far and wide got to come and meet each other!
It's like... what was just two years ago, a small group of Reno artists, being weirdos among themselves has become a larger shared community of artists who are also weird, everyone in such in a differently weird special way... bringing their art, love and friends and support. Like a giant family reunion without the drama (well, there's drama, but it's good, weirdo drama). The support from every person who… Continue

My Step-Führer and the Gun

This is Jeff and Asa's fault. They gave me a taste of gunpowder and I liked it.

My 86-year-old Step-Führer has a handgun. Actually, it is my mother’s gun, given to her by a cop she dated over 40 years ago. Luckily, she has no access to it, as pre-dementia and weaponry don’t play well together. Neither of them has ever fired it. I want the gun for target practice, but my Step-Führer likes "having a gun in the house." He said he would give me his .22 rifle, but I want to try the .38.

NadaDada Gun Club & Tire Repair

Yikes! I'm feeling the pressure!

I had planned on getting copies of Dianna's and Chad's pictures, and then editing them together with mine to make a really cool video, but Chad already posted one. If I worked at my normal speed, by the time I finished you would all be bored with this and deep into eggnog, so here's what I have. I also have some video clips which I may post at some point, but they aren't very good.

Since Xmas is coming up, if anyone wants to give me a better editing program, I… Continue

New PAINTING "Orb Garden Mermaid"

Yeah, first painting I've finished in 2008!! (I know, I know, 2008 is almost over...took me long enough) Here are some pics of me working on it from earlier this year, and then the finished painting. If anyone is interested it isn't up on the website yet, I have to get it professionally photographed first, but you can email me. There has already been some interest in this piece, I took it on the road with me this summer, unfinished. I painted on it a little while vending. Painting in front of yo… Continue

All Hail Serendipity!

On this, Thanksgiving weekend, I'd like to carry on the traditional gesture of offering up words of thanks to my God who's permeated the fabric of my life and made me into me.

My thanks today goes out to a word–yes–this word I've recently declared my God. I trust this word above all others because I believe it is one word that stands outside of reason. It cannot, in this world, be taken away OR produced at will–by anyone; in fact, my new faith tells me that this word IS the world and it is ever… Continue

An article about Double Negative, and it's pretty good.

http://www.portlandart.net/archives/2008/11/revisiting_mich.html

It brings up some interesting points about how land art can be always new to the viewer, in the way that painting is not and how we couldn't even make this kind of work today.

Notes

This site will serve what purpose?

Let's talk about this concept of art in motel rooms and how this art event is different–and how to keep making it STAND OUT. What're we doing in these motel rooms, hmmm?? How much interest has there been? What's it like to attend this thing? Can other cities get involved? Who pays what to whom? When is check out time? If we find porn under the bed do we keep it?

People have a lot of questions to ask so ask away–or answer away–hell, do both.

Serendipity Gets It Upity

serendipity gets it uppity for me because it can feel great to be out of control, not calling the shots, that can feel great. I like art in that way and art making, you know, when a drip just works. Usually it turns out the 'accident' was better than you possibly could have planned out. Well, that's kinda how this show should be seen. 50 artists have exhibitions in rooms next to each other, there's gonna be some juxtaposed serendipity gettin' it uppity in hee-ah.
